Ashtanga Vinyasa Weekly Classes

Best described as a self-practice in a group setting, the Mysore style is the traditional way of the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga system.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Weekly Classes

Students come to class and practice the Ashtanga series at their own pace, level, and capacity with individual support from teachers and the energy of group practice. This self-practice method allows the student to work at their own pace.

Ashtanga Complete Primary Series

The teacher guides students through the full Ashtanga Primary Series in a led class setting. Known as Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy), the Primary Series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga system is a vigorous and dynamic practice focusing on synchronizing breath and movement. It is designed to create a purifying heat within the body that burns away all impurities in preparation for higher yoga practices. Participants move through a series of asanas, jumping from one posture to another, building heat, endurance, flexibility, strength, and mental focus. The Led Ashtanga Full Primary Series class covers all the elements of the Primary Series, including vinyasa, Sun Salutations, standing postures, seated postures, and finishing postures.

Under the supervision of Sr. Teacher Yogi Kamal Singh, adjustments are offered to accelerate the mastery of the practice. Students new to Ashtanga yoga are encouraged to take the 7-day Ashtanga Beginner Intensive Course.

Yoga Class Description

Modified Led Primary Series - Beginners

The teacher-guided students through half of the Ashtanga Primary Series in a led class setting using cues, verbal instructions, and adjustments. This class is ideal for those who are beginners or are new to Ashtanga yoga.

Pranayama

Classes cover the theory and practice of various Pranayama techniques that work on the gross and subtle levels of the body, purifying and balancing the physical and energetic bodies. Classes present revised and practical pranayamas that are more applicable to the modern yogi without compromising the integrity of these ancient traditions. Students discover and learn to work with their prana (or life force energy) via the breath using safe and effective methods. Students work intensely to fortify the body and bring peace to mind by learning about their breath, including ratios and capacities.

Yoga Nidra

It is an ancient technique of self-exploration and inner growth through deep relaxation. Yoga Nidra, or "yogic sleep," is a powerful guided self-hypnosis meditation technique that helps you move deeply through your subconscious to process unresolved conflicts and bring inner harmony and peace. Through Yoga Nidra, you will learn to become a peaceful observer of the ever-changing tides of consciousness.

Deeply relaxing, the practice will consist of pranayama (breathing exercises) and guided meditation in a vital position. Then, students rest comfortably in savasana as the teacher guides them through complete physical body relaxation before leading students more profoundly into the energy body and on visualization journeys into the space between the subconscious and the unconscious.

Yoga Nidra will guide you into direct experience and observation of the constant movement of your core beliefs, emotions, and thoughts. Then, with enhanced inner insight, you will learn to identify and act from the needs of your authentic self.

Yoga Nidra is currently being used by therapists and yoga instructors worldwide as more people discover its benefits. Benefits include:

  • Releasing three kinds of tension - muscular, emotional, and mental.
  • Reduced stress
  • Enhanced memory and learning capacity
  • Removing repressed matter and increasing willpower. Awakened creativity
  • This class is suitable for all levels

Meditation

Meditation is the simple and direct practice of moment-to-moment mindfulness. Through careful and sustained observation, we experience the ever-changing flow of the mind/body process. With cultivated awareness, we can accept more openly the pleasure and pain, fear and joy, and sadness and happiness that inevitably occur in life. Meditation classes offer various methods to bring peace and tranquillity to the mind. Some meditation techniques taught include breath and full body awareness, chakra meditations, cleansing meditations such as trataka, Osho meditations, silent meditation, guided visualization, mantra meditations, object concentration, and many more.

The practice of meditation brings deep internal awareness, quiets the fluctuations of the mind, and brings sustainable peace to the practitioner. As an insight into ourselves depends, we develop more significant serenity and stability in the face of change. Wisdom and compassion have increasingly become the guiding principles in our lives. Blankets are also provided. Students are welcome to bring their cushions.

Kriyas And Satkarma

Kriya and Satkarma are powerful cleansing techniques used by yogis to deeply purify the body and transcend the barriers in the relationship with the body. Various methods are used to cleanse the body, some more intense than others. Dhauti, Basti, Neti, Trataka, Nauli, and Kapalabhati are the six purification processes. These ancient practices are the Satkarms (six activities known as Kriyas), which open the pathways of the body, the nadis, the energy body, the mind, and the heart. These powerful exercises use a combination of energetic breath and movements. Traditionally yogis perform Satkarmas before asana or other yoga practices.

In this class, you will learn how and when to perform Satkarma to create a clear foundation to deepen your yoga practice. The course covers some fundamental cleansing practices, including Sutra Neti, Jala Neti, Vaman, and Shana Prakshalana. After doing these practices, the yogi will feel detoxified, lighter, more transparent, and rejuvenated. This helps to unplug the limitations instilled by social conditioning, open the energy channels, activate the energy centres, and also to unburden the physical body of accumulated obstructions and toxins.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga classes integrate a sequence of asanas from the traditional Hatha yoga system to balance the practitioner's lunar and solar energies, bringing health and peace to the body and mind. In addition, these classes are a gentler way to strengthen and open the body in preparation for the higher limbs of yoga.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga classes use techniques from the Yin and Hatha systems of yoga to gently work into the deeper parts of the body, opening and releasing tension in the muscles, organs, and lymphatic system. A perfect supplement to the more rigorous Ashtanga practice and an ideal practice just on its own to relax and restore the body and mind.
